There are three main things you need to get shredded in your college exercise plan.
- Put your body in a caloric deficit
- Eat the right foods to preserve muscle
- Strength train to maintain existing muscle or build new muscle
Those are the important things.
Based on those 3 steps, what makes getting completely “ripped” so difficult for most people?
Well, on the one hand when you’re in a caloric deficit your body literally has to eat itself to continue functioning.
And we hope that it turns to stored body fat to do it.
On the other hand, it also has to try and NOT touch the muscle mass (or maybe even build new muscle). Jesus!
How in the hell are you supposed to do that?
The answer… very carefully.
The reason more people don’t look incredibly lean and muscular is it takes somewhat of a subtle approach and a ton of patience achieve.
Fortunately, in this week’s video I have a method you can use to structure your exercises that works incredibly well for leaning down to single-digit body fat percentages while still holding onto your hard-earned muscle.
Like I just said, trying to lean your body down while maintaining your body’s muscle is sort of a balancing act.
You’re trying to target a specific body composition and tell your metabolism…
Hey, can you just use my stored body fat for energy?
And the simple way you do that is by initiating every way that you can to communicate to your body that your muscle is in high demand and that you don’t want to get rid of it.
That’s why you gotta exercise in college by lifting heavy weights, eating plenty of protein, and getting enough sleep.
But the point I’m making in this week’s’ video is in your workout plan.
Sure, if you’re diet is on point, most of the reps/sets schemes will help you make progress…
(There are sets and reps for strength as well as sets and reps for mass.)
…but some of them are more effective and pushing you to max effort when you actually have more energy available to give.
And when you can apply more effort, you can stimulate more muscle fibers, and tell your metabolism to go bury its head in the stored body fat instead.
